Driver Database Management: "This page can’t be displayed"

I need a solution

Brand-new install of 8.0 HF1.

When I try to add an expanded driver CAB pack (in this case, it's for a Dell OptiPlex 3040), I can expect the driver addition to take over an hour, since the folder is 2.15 GB in size.

I add the drivers as one would normally, and they start adding--I can see it's working, as the folder C:\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\NSCap\bin\Deployment\DriversDB on the NS is being populated with driver folders.

After one hour, the driver-add window in the Conslole fails with this, and drivers are no longer being added:

•Make sure the web address https://deploy.dept.example.edu is correct.
•Look for the page with your search engine.

Is there a config file I need to change to fix this timeout issue?

Thanks!

Indefinite "PEInstall Automation Package is creating"

Brand-new install of 8.0 HF1.

I have followed the WinPE 5.1 steps outlined here:

To use WinPE 5.0 as a preboot environment, you must first download and install the Windows ADK for Windows 8.1 Update. You will only need to select "Deployment Tools" and "Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE)" options from the setup. To upgrade WinPE 5.0 to WinPE 5.1, perform the steps in the recommended link before beginning to import ADK. Note: You will only need to do this once to prepare DS to use WinPE 5.x as a preboot environment. Once this step is complete, you will not be prompted again.

I clicked the link to import ADK, and for the past more than an hour, I've been stuck here:

PEInstall Automation Package is creating.This process takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.

Thanks!

Is there a way to edit the unattend.xml file which is created when you run the Sysprep within Prepare Image for Capture task?

We come from a world of using Ghost and had a few custom things in our Unattend.

I have not been able to find a way to customize the one which is created for you in Deployment Solution.

Software Management Solution plugin broken after deployment

I need a solution

We updated our Windows 7 image the other week as it hadn't been touched in some time, mainly to install later security patches and also to upgrade the 7.5 agent to version 8.

This image deploys correctly and then the upgrade policies apply and upgrade all components to version 8.0.

After updating the image we noticed that any script tasks worked but software deployment ones would hang. The software packages would be downloaded okay but the actual installation would not occur and would just sit there until the time limit hit and then the job would fail.

We also noticed the same thing happening with our new Windows 10 test image.

I went back to check the template Windows 7 machine and I can deploy applications pre-sysprep/prepare for image capture okay. But after the image is deployed this plugin seems broken in some way.

What i have noticed is that if you remove that plugin and then re-install it, either manually or via policy and you can then deploy software once more.

At first glance it would appear the prepare for image capture task is somehow breaking this plugin.

Has anyone else experienced this. I strongly suspect this is a version 8.0 only issue, however we never did this when we were running 7.6 so can't say for absolute certainty.

Deployment Solution 7.6 Disk Partition not created

I need a solution

Hello

We using Deployment Solution 7.6. We have standard image captured and that we want to deploy on new Bare Metal machine which we just purchased.

Disk is of 500GB capacity so we dont want 1 Single partition. If we deploy pre-captured image on to it, then it will create 1 single partition and loads image into that only. We want create atleast 2 partitions and deploy image into primary one. We have set below task

1) Erase Disk

2) Partition Disk

3) Deploy Image

4) Reboot to Production

But it fails to create partition on machine and deployed image with single drive.

If we deploy scripted image on stage point 3 then it will create two partitions.

Install device drivers post Windows 7 install - Deployment Solution 7.6

I need a solution

Hi All,

I am having issues installing the device drivers after Windows 7 is installed. We are not using Deploy Anywhere. The process for OS Install is as follows.

1) Erase Disk

2) Install OS (Ghost image - I specify the answer file under the sysprep configuration).

3) Copy Drivers (The drivers are copied to C:\Drivers).

4) Boot to Production

In the answer file, I specify the drivers path to C:\Drivers under the WindowsPE pass. But that did not work. I then specified the Drivers path under SystemAudit as well, but it did not work either.

WindowsPE

<settings pass="windowsPE">
               <component name="Microsoft-Windows-PnpCustomizationsWinPE" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
            <DriverPaths>
                <PathAndCredentials wcm:action="add" wcm:keyValue="1">
                    C:\Drivers
                </PathAndCredentials>
            </DriverPaths>
        </component>

</settings>

AuditSystem

<settings pass="auditSystem">
        <component name="Microsoft-Windows-Deployment" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
            <Reseal>
                <Mode>Audit</Mode>
            </Reseal>
        </component>
        <component name="Microsoft-Windows-PnpCustomizationsNonWinPE" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
            <DriverPaths>
                <PathAndCredentials wcm:action="add" wcm:keyValue="1">
                    C:\Drivers
                </PathAndCredentials>
            </DriverPaths>
        </component>
    </settings>

I have the 1st 3 steps working and I am presented with a login screen, but since the drivers are not installed, the 4th step "Boot to production" fails. I would appreciate if someone can guide me where to specify the drivers path in answer file so that the drivers get installed correctly. Please advise.

Thanks !

DS – 7.6 – Problems with creating images from a reference Mac (NetBoot)

$

I need a solution

Hello all,

We just started using Altiris for Windows deployment without any major issues. I’m trying to research deployment solutions for Macs, however so far I encountered a problem while trying to create a test image of a reference Mac.

Here is my test setup:

  • Apple Server serving NetBoot image with Automation NetBoot image
  • Another test iMac booted to the Automation image from OS X server used to grab a test image
  • Both computers run OS X 10.11
  • NetBoot Automation image updated with MOCU.app, containing Deployment Plug-in, and Altiris Agent
  • All policies are enabled to register a new Mac, so CMS indicates that a new computer has been registered with generic name NetBoot###

I am able to push UNIX scripts to the test mac without any issues. However, iIn case of “create an image” task, both the client and the console return Failure 1, Error code -2111635342, “An unknown exception was thrown. Task handler produced an invalid return status.”

I double checked all settings, I also rebuilt the NetBoot image. I point to the right partition of the reference Mac in the task settings.

After a few tries I also changed SupportsDiskless argument to true, just to test it out (https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH225...).

If you happen to encounter a similar problem, I would really appreciate your help.

Currently, we are using both DeployStudio and Apple Server for image deployment. However, we consider possibility of switching to Altiris for our Mac imaging in the future.

Please let me know your suggestions or recommended ways of debugging this problem. I am assuming, there is some possible problem with Deployment Plug-in in the NetBoot image or something is not set up correctly in the SMC.

WinPE 10 on DS 8.0 HF2

I need a solution

Hi everyone,

I upgraded my dev box to 8.0 HF2 yesterday after reading from the release notes that I could use WinPE 10. After the upgrade completed I removed the Windows 8.1 ADK, installed the Windows 10 (update 1511) ADK, imported it, and then upgraded my WinPE 5.1 to 10. I then recreated the preboot configurations (PXE). Everything shows that I'm on WinPE 10. My problem is that now I can only boot machines with legacy BIOS enabled. When I boot with UEFI enabled, I get a PXE-E99 error. With WinPE 5.1, I had no problem booting with UEFI BIOS enabled. So I'm wondering if I missed something or if anyone has seen this type of issue before.

I've recreated the preboot environment several times with no change. Any suggestions are welcome.

How can I robocopy from server to client without explicit credentials?

I need a solution

Hello,

I have a server with 6.9 SP5 MR1 with some directories that are copied to workstations during a Windows image deployment.

I would like to create a job to update these local directories with the latest content available in the server.

The restrictions are:

- I need to maintain files in the clients that aren't in the server (i.e. local log files)

- I need to update/change the same files for the new versions in the server

- I need to add new files in the server to the clients

So my idea is to use ROBOCOPY application and /MIR switches excluding log files and directories ...

But I don't want to have a NET USE drive: \\server\express command in the script but trying to use some kind of agent to server connection not available to users, not placed on an script in the system TEMP folder for security purposes.

Is this possible using persistent connections or connections where the username/password for accessing the share (like the ones used during WinPE phase) aren't available or are hidden to users?

Any idea would be very appreciated.

Thanks.

hidden unattend.xml file when using Prepare for Image Capture?

$

I need a solution

Recently inherited responsibilities for our deployment solution (7.1). I'm trying to update one of our windows 7 images, and as such am updating the answer file. So far, every time after I run the Prepare for Image Capture Task, once that's done the PC reboots with the old unattend.xml file.

I've tried changing out the answer files on the image itself, the one in c:\windows\panther\ always gets overwritten with the old file. The only other location for an answer file is c:\windows\system32\sysprep. That one does not get overwritten. Also, if I use sysprep from the local machine, it copies the file from that folder into panther.

On the server, the only place I see an answer file is .\Altiris\Notification Server \NSCap\bin\Win32\X86\Deployment\unattend.xml. I've swapped that for the new one, but no change.

Does anyone have any idea where another unattend.xml file could be hidden, or where Prepare for Image Capture pulls it's answer file from?

8.0 HF2, WinPE 10, can't install OS from automation

$

I need a solution

I just upgraded to 8.0 HF2, and upgraded WinPE to version 10. Booting from an ISO, it works perfectly: I get the Initial Deployment menu, get to pick an option, and the scripted install runs great.

However, when I try to install the automation folder and boot from automation, I get the "Initial Deployment (Unknown Computer) Menu", which means two things:

- Obviously, it should be going straight to the scripted install job; not give me the initial deployment menu.

- It says the computer is unknown, even though it's known.

Here's a snippet from SMP.log that may be helpful:

<event date='06/30/2016 12:37:01.2280000 -08:00' severity='2' hostName='minint-3nifu0t' source='BasicInventory' module='AeXBasicInventory.dll' process='PECTAgent.exe' pid='1804' thread='1808' tickCount='70203'>
  Error while gathering AD distinguished name: Error connecting to AD object LDAP://RootDSE: Unspecified error (-2147467259)
</event>

On a side note, because I'm using split DNS, the computers in my department are on the example.edu domain, but their primary DNS suffixes are dept.example.edu

Thoughts?

Thanks!
