Deploy Image - disk image missing

I need a solution

I'm trying to deploy an image that I made yesterday.  It is a sysprepped image of Windows 7.  When I create the task, and I have to select the image, it says no items found.  I've made two images and neither show up.  What do I need to do to get these images to appear so I can select them?

As a side question, I have a NAS that I like to store my images to in previous versions of Altiris.  Can I force the server to create my images and save them to the NAS?

Windows 10 scripted install - not working, but works by hand.

Product: Dell Inspiron 15-3552 (I know...I hate Inspirons too, but someone wanted the cheapest 15" laptops available...). No onboard Ethernet, so I use a StarTech USB31000SW USB 3.0 to Ethernet dongle

I'd like to do a scripted install of Windows 10. If I install it from the ISO by hand, it works perfectly, including recognizing the USB Ethernet dongle.

If I do a scripted install, it fails with this error:

ErrorMessage: Exception has occured in function SMPPackage.cpp() at Line No 716. Type of exception is GeneralError. Error is The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. Error Description is utilCSMPPackageGetMultiplesFileFromHTTP. Value of Windows error code = 6 and message is The handle is invalid.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Additional NBS Server not receiving the WINPE configs

I need a solution

I recently modified one of our Site Servers to use NBS. I think I have everything done, except for winpe builds that I use on our primary NBS server. I have a cloned NBS General Settings for the new NBS setup specifically for it. The pre-existing Winpe's are setup for Unknown and Managed Computers. Agent on the new NBS was updated. Can't I have my pre-existing winpe builds that I made in Preboot Configurations go to the new NBS? Or will I have to make new Winpe for the new NBS? I would think it is that easy.

Set Internet Explorer 11 as default browser over Edge

Does anyone know how to set IE11 as the default browser instead of Edge with a Windows 10 image? I have set IE11 as the default during the image build. But after sysprep'ed with the prepare for image capture/create image tasks; Edge becomes the default browser all over again.

While I am at this, I have also removed Skype and Get Office in the image build from Settings > System > Apps & Features. After said and done, they return.

I need a solution

Anyone have any luck getting PXE boot images working with the NIC on the Lenovo T460? It uses the I219-LM driver. I've imported every single one I could locate (from Lenovo and Intel) for Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 utilizing x64 which we typically do when we upload new driver support for WinPE. Any help is appreciated!

Multicast Issues with CMS 8.0; DS 6.9sp6

I need a solution

Looking for any shops that have a Cisco network, with a Nexus 7000 core and various Cisco switches ranging from 3560G to C4500. We have seen imaging times decline (for a 30GB image) from under an hour to four to five hours.  Currently we are testing deployment from two sources:

Deployment Solution 6.9 sp6 deploying Windows 7.1 and 10 images (using Rdeploy and yes I know that's legacy stuff)

Client Mangement Suite 8.0 deploying Windows 7.1 and 10 images (using Ghost--12.0.0.7250)

Speeds for both setups are consistent and consistently slow.

Our Cisco guy wants to reach out to anyone with a Cisco network and using either of these deployment tools and using them with acceptable speeds.

Diagnostics of both network and servers show all is good but obviously all is not.

If you find this post and want to reach out to me, email lilly@tarleton.edu.

DS 6.9 SP6 LinuxPE can't mount NFS

I need a solution

I haven't been able to mount an NFS share in the linux automation kernel that came with DS 6.9 SP6 (2.6.32-358). I get the error: "unknown filesystem type 'nfs'" (I was able to mount NFS in the previous version.)

I can mount SMB but would like to do NFS and it brings down an image much faster.

Has anyone run into this or been able to find a solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Manage the replication of image files.

I need a solution

Hi,

we are using Altiris 7.5 for deployment. We have an Notification server and several Site server.

In one folder of the Notification Server we have several *.wim (windows image files) files for our new clients. There are corresponding folders and files on the site server. I think that these files are replicated, once a day, automaticly.

Where, on the altiris console (the webinterface), do i find the point to manage these replication? Just adding a file in these folder is not enough :-(  And i am not clever enough to find it.

Thanks for any hint.

Altiris Deployment Solution 7.6 Scripted OS Install

I need a solution

Hi,

Currently, we are using Altiris DS 6.9 and have a complete hardware independent imaging process for OS deployment. The process is as follows:

1. Win x86 Prepare disk (Wipes the disk)

2. Copy the drivers (A condition is set for the models to copy the drivers)

3. Install OS (Built-in Scripted OS install job is used with Answer file to install Windows 7)

4.Join to the domain

5. Install Applications (Standard Softwares , Symantec Management Agent).

We will be discontinuing DS 6.9 and moving to Altiris Deployment Solution 7.6.  I would like to achieve similar process in Deployment Solution 7.6 using scripted OS install (using WIM file). How can I achieve it ? I would appreciate if anyone can guide me through the process. Any tutorial, HowTo or video would be a great help.

Thanks !

Image resources/packages not being deleted from Package Server

I need a solution

I have deleted image resources from "All Resources" section under "Image resource", corresponding deployment software packages from "All Resources" section under "Software Package", Images from under "Settings>All Settings>Deployment>Disk Images" section and actual image files from under "X:\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\NSCap\bin\Deployment\Packages\Images\" on NS, and corresponding "Deploy Image" tasks that were using these images from under the Console, but yet these packages remain on my Package Servers. Can somebody please throw some light on how to purge these packages from my Site Servers? They are very large files and are taking up lot of space. I urgently need to clean this up because I'm falling short of space on my servers.

Thanks in advance.

Resource Import Tool error: "Unable to copy the image to the local package server"

I need a solution

I'm trying to import a GHO image to my NS, but every time I run ResourceImportTool.exe to do so, I get this error box: "Unable to copy the image to the image to the local package server"

I tried running the tool from cmd line as well, by filling out Import.XML, but it did not give me any output, and did not succeed either because I don't see the imported image files under "<NS>\\NSCap\bin\Deployment\Packages\Images\".

Things were working fine before I upgraded to 7.6 HF7. Any ideas why this could be happening?

I am attaching screenshots and my XML file. Kindly have a look. Thanks in advance.

I am running as admin, and the user has CMDB write access.

I need a solution

Hi,

We are having problems with the "Reboot to Production" timeout and in the release guide for Symantec IT Management Suite 7.6 HF7 it´s under the "Known Issues" with no resolution ????

We are having the problem in deployment jobs and also in Capture jobs.

https://symwisedownload.symantec.com//resources/sites/SYMWISE/content/live/DOCUMENTATION/9000/DOC9152/en_US/ITMS_7_6_HF7_ReleaseNotes.pdf?__gda__=1463865264_aa62029d93a8196709a26cd48cc8b866

Does anyone have a solution to this "known Issue" ?

Sick and tired of "known errors" from Symantec ....;o))

Windows 10 installs, but tas failes with error message

I need a solution

When we deploy Windows 10 unsing an unattend.xml the task failed with this error message:

ErrorMessage: Exception has occured in File FileUtils.cpp at Line No 193. Type of exception is GeneralError. Error Description is FileUtilsCreateFile() - something went wrong.. Value of Windows error code = 3 and message is The system cannot find the path specified.

Strange enough Windows 10 is installed correctly using the unattend.xml.

The 'Run Boot To Production' task fails also and no autoinstall of the Symantec Management Agent.

We use a similar process for windows 7 and this works withour problems.

Any suggestions?

PXE Setup

I need a solution

Hi All

I am building a 7.6 solution and have most things working as expected.  We are however having problems with PXE.  I have created a package server and installed the network boot services.  It has downloaded my PXE environment from the SMP server.

I have set it up so it only predefined computers will receive an image but when I try to boot a predefined PC I get a TFTP error - File not found.

The TFP log shows the connection was made as it has a process connection entry for the time of the boot with the following error

Failure code 2, client [IP Address here, 2070], file 'C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Deployment\SBS\Images\boot\pxeboot.n12', options [flag=1 blk=1456 tm=5 sz=0]

All the local config files show the entries as configured on the NBS settings but the pxeboot.n12 file is not where it is expecting it.  I am new to PXE but I am assuming this is the option menu file I should be seeing in the PXE boot.  Is this correct?

There seems to be no option to create this menu so, again, assuming this is auto generated, is this correct?  If so what am I missing?

Any help apprreciated

Scripted install stalls on "Boot to Production"

$

I need a solution

I have a scripted install job task for Windows 7 that goes as follows:

  • Install WinPE
  • Boot to Automation
  • Erase Disk
  • Partition Disk
  • Install w7x64
  • Boot to Production
  • Join domain
  • "Fix users"; a .bat to delete local "Altiris" account and change local "Administrator" password to helpdesk's default password
  • Unininstall WinPE
  • Install MSIE11

I've got this down to a science; it works perfectly with one exception. On a Dell OptiPlex 390, it stalls on "Boot to Production"--it sits there for an hour, then the job fails. If I go to the PC to see what happened, it's sitting there, powered on, I can log in with username "Altiris" and password "password", and the Symantec Management Agent is connected. In fact, I can use the console to join the domain and perform whatever other tasks/jobs I want to on this PC.

I have, in the past, successfully done scripted installs on 390s start to finish, so I'm pretty sure this is related to a driver that I have put in DeployAnywhere in the time since I last got a 390 to install successfully. The question is...how do I track down the culprit driver?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

8.0 HF1 - "Unknown computer"

I need a solution

I just upgraded from 7.6 HF7 to 8.0 HF1; all the appropriate components are on the NS and site server. I have a scripted-install job that does this:

  • Erase Disk
  • Partition Disk
  • Install Windows
  • Boot to Production
  • Join domain

Typically, to prepare a new computer, I add the MAC address and computer name to Predefined Computers, boot from a USB flash drive, select the scripted install from the Initial Deployment menu, and it's working.

Since going to 8.0 HF1, I get the "Unknown Computer" menu, even though the MAC address and computer name are listed in Predefined Computers. If I select a job and try to start it, the job never starts and it never shows up in the console.

Thoughts?

Thanks!
