Windows 10 scripted install - not working, but works by hand.

I need a solution

Product: Dell Inspiron 15-3552 (I know...I hate Inspirons too, but someone wanted the cheapest 15" laptops available...). No onboard Ethernet, so I use a StarTech USB31000SW USB 3.0 to Ethernet dongle

I'd like to do a scripted install of Windows 10. If I install it from the ISO by hand, it works perfectly, including recognizing the USB Ethernet dongle.

If I do a scripted install, it fails with this error:

ErrorMessage: Exception has occured in function SMPPackage.cpp() at Line No 716. Type of exception is GeneralError. Error is The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. Error Description is utilCSMPPackageGetMultiplesFileFromHTTP. Value of Windows error code = 6 and message is The handle is invalid.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Additional NBS Server not receiving the WINPE configs

I need a solution

I recently modified one of our Site Servers to use NBS. I think I have everything done, except for winpe builds that I use on our primary NBS server. I have a cloned NBS General Settings for the new NBS setup specifically for it. The pre-existing Winpe's are setup for Unknown and Managed Computers. Agent on the new NBS was updated. Can't I have my pre-existing winpe builds that I made in Preboot Configurations go to the new NBS? Or will I have to make new Winpe for the new NBS? I would think it is that easy.

Does anyone know how to set IE11 as the default browser instead of Edge with a Windows 10 image? I have set IE11 as the default during the image build. But after sysprep'ed with the prepare for image capture/create image tasks; Edge becomes the default browser all over again.

While I am at this, I have also removed Skype and Get Office in the image build from Settings > System > Apps & Features. After said and done, they return.

I need a solution

I recently upgraded to  DS 6.9 SP6 but I am having a hard time locating any documentation on how to update my Linux pre-boot (automation) environment.

I am currenty using 2.6.27.7 and would like to use  2.6.32-358.el6 (which is listed as supported in the release notes) so that I can compile a more current driver set.

I inherited this system so I am still trying to get my feet under me.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Custom Sysprep config file not processing

I need a solution

What am I doing wrong? I have created and deployed images on several managed computers in my organization but having trouble imaging unknown computers. I know that I need to add the new machines as predefined and I can get the computers to take an image. But after I boot to production, the computer will sit until I logon and click on the Sysprep dialog box. (See attached) I am using a custom sysprep file when deploying my image. But why isn't this getting processed until I log on to the machine and manually click this popup?

Thanks,

~Michael

Altiris - PXE booting on EfficientIP

$

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

Necessary Parameters for PXE

To implement the PXE protocol, DHCP options and/or BOOTP parameters must be configured:

Next-server (BOOTP parameter) specifies the host address of the server from which the initial boot file (specified in the filename statement) is to be loaded. The value of this option should be a numeric IP address. If no next-server parameter applies to a given client, the DHCP server IP address is used.

TFTP-server-name (DHCP option #66) is used to identify a TFTP server when the Next- server (BOOTP parameter) field in the DHCP header has been used for DHCP options.

Filename (BOOTP parameter) specifies the name of the initial boot file to be loaded. The value of this option should be the name of a file that is recognizable to whatever file transfer protocol the client is expected to use to load the file. Some clients might prefer to receive this information in the bootfile-name option.

Bootfile (DHCP option #67) specifies the name of the boot file to be used when the file field is used to carry options.

These options can be configured at multiple levels: server, scope, static reservation, DHCP group or dynamic range.

The PXE parameters configuration only applies to DHCPv4. For now, it is impossible to set them with IPv6 addressing.

To configure the next-server and the filename options in DHCPv4

  1. Go to the properties page of the server, scope, range, group or static of your choice.

  2. In the DHCP options panel, click on the . The Configure DHCP options wizard opens.

  3. In the Option category drop-down list, select the BootP Compatible option. The two options: next-server and filename are listed among the options.

  4. In the next-server field, type in the IP address of the server which the initial boot file will be loaded.

  5. In the filename field, type in the name of the initial boot file to be loaded.

  6. Click on to commit your configuration. The report opens and closes. The modifications

are listed in the DHCP options panel.

Edit the unattend.xml created by Prep Image for Capture

Is there a way to edit the unattend.xml file which is created when you run the Sysprep within Prepare Image for Capture task?

We come from a world of using Ghost and had a few custom things in our Unattend.

I have not been able to find a way to customize the one which is created for you in Deployment Solution.

Software Management Solution plugin broken after deployment

I need a solution

We updated our Windows 7 image the other week as it hadn't been touched in some time, mainly to install later security patches and also to upgrade the 7.5 agent to version 8.

This image deploys correctly and then the upgrade policies apply and upgrade all components to version 8.0.

After updating the image we noticed that any script tasks worked but software deployment ones would hang. The software packages would be downloaded okay but the actual installation would not occur and would just sit there until the time limit hit and then the job would fail.

We also noticed the same thing happening with our new Windows 10 test image.

I went back to check the template Windows 7 machine and I can deploy applications pre-sysprep/prepare for image capture okay. But after the image is deployed this plugin seems broken in some way.

What i have noticed is that if you remove that plugin and then re-install it, either manually or via policy and you can then deploy software once more.

At first glance it would appear the prepare for image capture task is somehow breaking this plugin.

Has anyone else experienced this. I strongly suspect this is a version 8.0 only issue, however we never did this when we were running 7.6 so can't say for absolute certainty.

Inspiron 3552 - Scripted install problem

I need a solution

I'm trying to do a Windows 7 scripted install on a Dell Inrpison 3552. The Ethernet connection is a StarTech USB-Ethernet dongle, and I've put the drivers in both DeployAnywhere and preboot. I can boot from a flash drive and start the scripted install, but it fails with this:

ErrorMessage: Exception has occured in function SMPPackage.cpp() at Line No 716. Type of exception is GeneralError. Error is The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. Error Description is utilCSMPPackageGetMultiplesFileFromHTTP. Value of Windows error code = 6 and message is The handle is invalid.

The computer won't boot, telling me there's no OS.

This same scripted install works flawlessly elsewhere.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Copy file task browse button greyed out

I need a solution

When trying to edit an existing copy file task or create a new one the browse button to choose the location of the file is greyed out. I've tried on several different computers including the server itself. We are currently running 7.6 HF5. The issue seams to be related to Java. I've added our server to the site exceptions list in the java console and am running the latest version of java on the machine. I do get the java popups asking if I want to run it. After that I get an error saying your security settings have blocked an application signed with an expired or not yet valid cert from running. If I go in and added the site to the exceptions list in java that error goes away, but teh browse button still doesn't' work.

Oddly enough the folder button does work when going to import drivers into the driver database.

Has anyone else run into this?

DS Console no longer displays AD group members

I need a solution

Hello all,

A customer has a number of DS 6.9 SP6 servers running Windows 2008 R2 in one domain, no longer being able to display domain group members for that domain via the 'Options > Security' UI.

They can see users and groups from that domain when browsing the domain during the action of adding domain objects to a local windows group on the server.

The DS Console displays domain group members from other domains that have trusts to this domain.

Nothing of relevance seems to be recorded in the event viewer logs, and the Kerberos MaxTokenSize is set to 0xffff already.

This problem was first noticed by the customer a couple of weeks ago.

Does anyone have an idea as to what is causing this issue?

Hey everyone

For all of the 8.0 early adopters, as this release is going to coincide with the early stages of Windows 10 rollout a for many of us, I'm curious how the deployment experience has been so far. The support for the new OS was sort of rushed at the end of 2015 and I'm hoping that the approach going forward is more solid.

Thanks!

Must Delete and Predefine Computers Before Imaging

$

I need a solution

Hello,

We are on SMP 7.6 HF , using WinPE 5, and have an issue with deployment of images.  Anywhere from 1/3 to all of a set of computers will time out and fail without imaging whether by scheduled task or PXE boot.  If the same computers are deleted from SMP and recreated as predefined computers they image just fine. Half the time we are using essentially a manual process which just isn't acceptable. This has been ongoing for weeks and we are considering going to SCCM. We had a Symantec engineer go through our SMP - he found a few settings that needed correction, but nothing major. The problem persists. Is anyone experiencing anything similar?  I checked with our server admin who assured me he had regenerated the PXE boot files after each HF.

Respectfully,
