SMA Not Starting Tasks

I need a solution

PLATFORM

Deployment Solution 7.6 HF5 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 VM.

ISSUE

Client agents will not start assigned tasks.

ROOT CAUSE

The CMDB was moved to a new SQL server (off box), I made the change on the notification server, and rebooted the NS.  After the reboot, there were several issues:

The console isn't responding.

Atrshost will not start.

Atrshost.exe is throwing errors in the log viewer.

Task server isn't binding on listening ports (50120 - 50124).

Agents won't register with the NS.

STEPS TAKEN SO FAR

Attempted to start / restart services.

Rebooted the NS.

Reinstalled atrshost service.

Reinstalled task service (had to manually remove atrshost)

Rebooted the NS.

-- Still not binding on ports

Restored NS to 8 day old snapshot.

-- Agents now register with task server.

-- Console comes up but throws errors.

-- NS is listening on ports 50123 and 50124

-- Agents will not start assigned tasks

HF 5 was available so I installed it..

-- Now the console works and agents register with NS and task.

-- Agents still won't start assigned tasks.

-- atrshost still throws repeating errors in log viewer.

Restarted IIS.

Rebooted server.

No change.

OUTSTANDING ISSUE

Client agents will not start assigned tasks.

Atrshost throws repeating errors in log viewer (screenshot attached).

I'm out of ideas.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Help With Software Deployment with multiple files

I need a solution

Advice please. I am trying to create a software package that contains an exe and a lot of files and reg files that need to copied to certain locations as part of the install and then running the reg file as well as installing the exe. I do not have an option of an MSI package as the install I have is only exe. what will be the best action to complete this?

Backing Up Image - Naming Variables

I need a solution

Hi,

So ive created a backup job to backup laptops of users have left the company. 

I'm looking to have these attributes automatically populate when the backup is being created. Username,Model,Asset Tag.

Currently i tried %USER_NAME%%ASSETTAG%.gho

The %ASSETTAG% populates correctly

%USER_NAME% does not populate shows up as variable.

I dont see any option for model or product

Altiris 7.6 Unattend MacOSX Installation failed

Hi,

we want to deploy MacOSX Yosemite with an Automated/Unattend MacOS Installation.

We create netboot and netinstall.

Netboot works fine but we still haave Problems with Netinstall.

When we run a Install MacOS Task with a Netinstall Image the Installation did not run automated.

MacOS ask for Region, User, Language and so on.

We use the answer file for mac.

During Creation of netinstall we did not put in the modul "Automated Installation" because with this Modul we must specifiy the target volume.

When we do that, we will get the error "Installing on null" during the setup.

So my question is how to build a unattend/automated MacOS Installation without manual input like language, region and so on.

Upgrading DS 7.6 HF1 to HF6 - IIS

I need a solution

I'm currently running DS 7.6 HF1, and I'd like to upgrade to HF6. I take the following steps in Symantec Installation Manager:

- Install hot fixes.

- Select all (Deployment Solution, ITMS Management Views, and Symantec Management Platform 7.6 HF6).

- Accept license.

- Install Readiness Check shows all recommendations OK.

I am stopped at the following error message:

"SSL Setting is set to true for web site 'Default Web Site' and 'SecureBindings' is not available with this website, bind Secure port with the selected website before Installation.

Sadly, I'm not all too familiar with IIS (my workplace is all httpd). How can I fix IIS to let the HF6 update work?

Directly editing DS 6.9 DB to replace paths in run script/deliver software

I need a solution

So we recently moved our software share that we used for deploying all of our software from with a shiny new DFS share. For the sake of speed and sanity I'd like to directly manipulate the database to replace "\\servername\sharename" with "\\dfs\sharename". Has anyone ever done this before or see any problems doing so?

I've found the few relevant tables that need to be updated:

[script_task]; column: script, script_file

[copyfile_task]; column: local_file

svs_manage_layers; column: file_path

Install_task; column: install_file, addl_cmd_line, cmdline_params

And here's an example of the update SQL script:

UPDATE script_task
SET script = REPLACE(script,'\\servername\sharename\','\\dfs\sharename\')

My DBA had also mentioned we need to change ‘script’ column in the ‘script_task’ table to allow for 6075 varchar, it is currently 6000. I'm not sure if one of run script jobs has a really long vbscript in it so I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to change the character limit, probably best to just find the long script and fix that.

This would save me a ton of work, we have the old share name aliased to the new location but I'd like software to be installed using the new path so the install source is correct in the registry and maybe 5 or so years from now we can remove that alias. Obviously we'd perfrom a DB backup and a job export before performing the work.

Has anyone successfully deployed a Windows 10 Image?

Hello,

Any anyone successfully deployed a Windows 10 Image using DS 7.6 HF6?

I have built, sysprepped and used GHOST to upload the image.

I am able to run the Image task to download the image, it even injects the drivers and unattend.xml.

However, when the system goes to boot, it acts like there is no disk.  However, using diskpart, I can see the 4 partitions there.

I know I am missing a step somthere.

Anyone have an idea to help?  I am imaging a 2 year old laptop.

PDFCreator 2.2.1 Update

Hello,

I've got a problem with the deployment (Altiris 7.5) of a task of Pdfcreator 2.2.1

I'm using a Software task where it installs the software with the command line :

"PDFCreator-2_2_1-setup.exe" /LOADINF="uds.inf" /VERYSILENT /COMPONENTS="program,ghostscript" /NORESTART /FORCEINSTALL

it appears that there is no problem with this command line.

It works well when no Pdfcreator is found, but when PdfCreator 2.1 is found the task exit with error -100, but the software is well updated.

Could someone tell me what is that issue and how to solve it ?

After installing DS 6.9 SP6 onto my Windows 2008 R2 Server running SQL 2012, I have noticed that it does not have the Samples job folder. 

Was this removed in this SP?

Can't Grab Image

I need a solution

Hi,

I'm trying to use Symantec Ghost Suite 3.0 to grab images from a machine and push the image to other machines using PXE boot (using WinPE).  I ran into this issue while PXE booting on a machine that I want to grab the image from:

IMAG0828.jpg

How do I fix this so I can grab the image?  How do I get this to authenticate the network connection?  What network drive is this specifying?  Where do I change it so it isn't conflicting?  How do I get this working?

I have several different pwershell scripts that I want to deploy out to clients using Altiris DS.  what do I need to do in the "RUN SCRIPT" to get Altiris to run a powershell 5.0 script.  Need an assist on this.

PXE-E53: No boot filename received Surface Pro 4

I need a solution

Hello,

I am attempting to perform a PXE boot to WinPE from DS 7.6 HF6 using WinPE 4.0 x32.

I also made the firmware configuration changes on the Surface Pro 4 documented in TECH225340.

I have the Surface Pro 4 attached to the new Microsoft Surface "Dock" and the Ethernet cable is plugged into the Dock. 

We do get a response from PXE asking to select what I want to do, either run WinPE 4 AM or boot off next device

I have attached a picture of what happens when I attempt to select my "WinPE 4 AM"

I can perform a PXE boot to WinPE 4 on ALL my HP Elitebook and Elite desktop systems.  It just does not work on the Surface Pro 4.

It must be somthing simple that is missing.

Anyone have any ideas?

Adding WinPE 5.1 to Deployment Server 6.9 SP6

I need a solution

We need to add WinPE 5.1 to our existing Deployment Server 6.9 SP6 environment because of new Dell 8.1 driver requirements. We are currently using both the legacy 2.1 and WinPE 4.0 images. Can this be done? We have not yet moved to Ghost Solution Suite.

I need a solution

I just upgraded to 7.6 HF7, and I'm running into the following problems:

- Inventory isn't working. The SMA gives me this:

- Several agent/plugin pages in the console are giving me this:

- An attempt to list the computers that should be getting SMA updates gives me this:

Thoughts?

Client Task Agent for MAC 7.6 HF 7 missing

Hi All,

after upgrade to Symantec Altiris 7.6 HF7 we found out that the Client Task Agent and Basic Task Handler are missing when installing SMA on new Mac.

Anybody else seen this issue.

Upgrading on existing Mac leaves both on Version 7.5.

I need a solution

Hello all,

I have found that DS 6.9 SP6 remote control only works on Windows 7 x86, as a message is displayed stating that it doesnt support x64 when I try. 

Also, I have found that the chat function fails to connect to Windows 7 x86, even though the DAgent on the client states that chat has initialised. 

Has anyone had any similar experiences, and are their other DS functions that do not work with Windows 7?

Does anyone know why, when I run the ResourceImportTool in SMP 7.6 HF6, it gives me a blank cmd.exe box and nothing else?

I have tried running it as an Administrator and via the command line and it still does the same?

I tried it on 7.6 HF0 and it worked OK.

After image deployment windows needs to be activated again

I need a solution

Hi all, we have tested deploying images with the new deployment solution 7.6

After each client image deployment, we have noticed that the windows license in each client machine will need to be activated again.

we test with both OEM and volume license but both requires me to manually activate after image deployment.

Is it possible to activate windows OS after deployment with any post deployment task or script???
