How to automatically add Endpoints to specific groups

I need a solution

We have multiple groups in our SEPM. The grougs were intially created into category " alpabetically".

Recently, created new  groups based on IP's and moved all the machines manually from the aplabetical groups to the IP groups.

But still when PC are formatted or newly added machine or re-named machines go to the alpabetical group in random.

1. How is that these machines are going to alpabetically groups, in spite of me clearing the endpoints from these groups?

2. Which machines appear in the Default group normally?

3. Can we set conditions for the machines to be automatically moved the specifc group based on IP?

I constantly get Informational alerts : "Symantec Endpoint Protection Computer List Changed". What does this mean ??

How can we know the previous location, to which the computer belonged, before the list was changed?

Drivers Post Image Deployment While in Automation Evironment

$

I need a solution

Greetings,

I'm in need of assistance as this has me baffled.

We are running Altiris 7.6, and WinPE 3.1.

The goal is to use one image for different systems (over 15 different types). We have an image sysprepped and had all local drivers installed originally on the image, but the driver pool was over 21 Gigs and it is growing. The goal is to have specific drivers copied over to the systems once the image is dumped onto the hardware.

I'm currently booting via a bootable USB key with the automation folder on it. I've been hitting a wall trying to copy drivers down from the DriverDB onto machines I'm trying to deploy.

I've tried the built-in copy with no sucess. The task will just time-out. I've tried replacing the Copy File function with just a standard xcopy script with no sucess either. Please note that I'm copying the drivers on the D:\ as the C:\ drive is the reserved partition. On bootup, D:\ becomes C:\

copy file.JPG

Above is an example of one of the copy file formats I tried. Is there a limitation of characters for the path to copy the files?

Xcopy2.JPG

Example above had the username (to try and prompt for a password with no success)

Xcopy_0.JPG

Another example that shows one of my scripts using my username/password as part of the "run as"

Both tasks have been set to run with my admin account.

I've trolled the forums here trying various things with no sucess. I'm now at the stage to try and map the network drive where the driverdb resides but even this is a fruitless exercise. I can't seem to find information on how I can modify the startup.bat file for the automation system.

Just to be clear, that if the system is in Windows, both the copy file / xcopy work really well. But I need this to be done just after the image dump as when the sysprepped image boots up for the first time, it's trying to find drivers that are not at the location I have specified in the registry to look for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Perform Disk Wipe on Windows 7 Embedded with DS 6.9 SP6

I need a solution

Hi

Our customer needs a solution to wipe the disks of some clients (which in effect are some cash desks ) with Windows 7 Embedded installed.

I recommended him the following article : https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO9581.html

He answered me, that there is no gdisk.exe on the clients. My question is.....Does the gpdisk.exe need to be on the clients or would the clients load it from the DS-Server?
When yes, is there any other solution with the Altiris DS 6.9 for doing this?

thanks and best Regards
Samir

I need a solution

I am creating a reference Image for Win10x64.

For that I use a virtual machine on a ESX60 host

One disk, VMXNET3 and EFI

In EFI I have set EFI-network as first boot option

When I PXE boot this virtual client, I do get the PXE Menu but only with "Next Device" and not the normal PXE menu (WPE51x64 and WPE10x64)

When I PXE boot a physical endpoint, I have all the boot menu's available.

What to do where?

Proper Way To Update Software and Policy

I need a solution

Hello all,

I have a software resource setup in Altiris 7.6.  We then setup a policy that will check to see if a system has the software and if not will push the software and install.  Very straight forward setup.  My question is what is the best way to update the software package to a new version.  When I import the Software I see there is two options.  1 Create new software resource or 2 Update an Existing Resource.  If I update the resource will that also update the policy?  Or should I create a new resource and a brand new software deployment policy?  Thanks so much for the help.At the end of the day just want to make sure this new version is checked for and installed.

I need a solution

I am attempting to take a ghost image outside of altiris tasks, just using the ghost exe and choosing to take the image.

I have de-selected spanning and once it gets to 2GB it starts to span regardless of the setting.  In the past this has worked fine, but now it seems to not work as it is supposed to.

any thoughts?

Hello

We have DS 7.6. We captured windows 10 image very smoothly using DS7.6 but DS7.6 does not have option to capture in .wim file extenstion it has only .ghost.

Is there anyway to convert that .Ghost image file into .wim file becuse we need to create USB stick for windows 10 image to use where bandwidth is very low.

If anyone assist on how to create windows 10 USB stick then much appreciated.

DriversDB not found in DS 6.9 SP6 with DeployAnywhere64.exe

I need a solution

Hi,

I have a problem when sending a deployment job. This was working in SP5, but we upgraded to SP6 and now is not working. The think is that, when I send a new deployment job, deployanywhere cannot find the drivers database and exists. The DriversDB folder DO exist, and indeed if we execute in the Automation Environment the command with "ddb=M:\driversdb" instead of "ddb=\driversdb" it does find the database... It seems that the format "ddb=\driversdb" is not being recognized with the DeployAnywhere64.exe contained in DS 6.9 SP6. Any ideas?

Deployment Image Job Progress/Status Indicator

I need a solution

So i have been asked by my techs as well as my management to find a way to visually show the status of the image job. There are questions about when a machine is complete and can be put back on the shelf. When i managed SCCM it provided this functionality out of the box and would like to have something similar with Altiris. If having a progress bar display throughout the entire process is too much, has anyone come up with a simple VB window at the end of the job to advertise the job is complete?

I have searched and played with the settings and havent come up with anything i would write to mom about yet. was hoping someone has already done this and i didnt have to re-invent the wheel.

Thanks, Jason

Package Downloads but does not initiate install

I need a solution

We are having issue with a hardware independent build with the new SMP 8.0 Agent installed?  We followed the normal procedure of Running "Prepare for Capture" on a Windows VM.  We then capture the image.  When we deploy the image, scripts will run OK but the first software package will timeout.  The software package will download, but the command to initiate the install will not start.  The software package install will eventually timeout.

I searched the forum and the following discussion that was similar, but with no solution.

Our privous image capture from 7.6 works OK, but we would like to have the latest Agents on the new build.

Creating a Win10 image with VMWare Workstation

I need a solution

I recently asked support for some information on best practices for creating a win10 image and was provided some outdated links (see below), so I wrote up an article with the steps I followed for creating a base win10 image using VMWare (tested with 1511 and 1607).

Let me know if anyone has any feedback for improving my process.  I still have a bit more learning to do with cleaning up the start menu.

https://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/creating-win10-image-vmware-workstation

In case anyone from Symantec sees this, maybe they should test the process to confirm if these articles are no longer valid (which is what I found) HOWTO125161 & TECH223595.

Windows 7 PE Boot not restarting through installation

I need a solution

Hi all, wondering if anyone has seen anything similiar with the deployment jobs in altiris 8.0 that seems to be driving me mad at the moment.

I have tasks setup that work brilliantly if you start them all from within PE manually, everything works fine. Windows setup reboots at the correct time for setup to carry on. The support desk prefer to boot the machine into PE and then use the menus from there to start the jobs.

Just trying to setup some tasks to reimage a machine thats currently turned on, and the windows 7 setup.exe is starting with /noreboot /unattend which i believe is stopping the installation halfway through and leaving it sitting in PE. The only thing I am changing is adding a boot to PE command at the start, I dont understand how its changing how the OS install job works!

I have had this working in 7.5 or 7.6 before with no problems, and I do rememeber somthing about the install reboot process being changed in the HF notes at some point but its been so long I just cant remember where. Ive just been through all the documentation but cant find it anywhere.

I cant use a restart command at the end as it doesnt register that the install job has even begun at this point either.. :/

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Failing to upload Mgt. Engine Interface driver to DriversDB

I need a solution

I am trying upload all drivers into the DriversDB for DeployAnywhere. With the WIndows x86 drivers for Optiplex 5040 and Latitude E5530 (for now) I am having trouble uploading the Intel Management Engine Interface Drivers (MEI/HECI). Message is "Failed to import driver: -Driver Path on NS- [Failed to find any drivers to add.].

I had this also with some biometrics drivers, resolved it by taking files from the driver's sub-directory and moving them to the driver's parent directory. I am aware that the DA DriversDB needs: .inf/.sys and if I am correct .cat files in order to upload at all to the DriversDB. But with the MEI drivers if I complile all files into one directory it still fails to upload.

See attached capture files for the import failure message and the files for the driver.

Not sure this is relevant, this is in my test environment and it is running Symantec CMS 8.0 HF3.

iusb3hub drivers causing BSOD between Optiplex 5040 and Latitude E5530

I need a solution

I am using DeployAnywehre with the Drivers Database. In my test environment (CMS 8 HF3) I am trying DA and the DriversDB with USB3 drivers. I have tried this in production last year with CMS 7.6 HF7 but I get driver conflicts (BSOD). RIght now, I have an issue with the Dell Latitude E5530 which requires USB3 driver version 1.0.8.251, the drivers are in the DB when it is imaged with Windows 7 it BSOD during the ghost user login when the iusb3hub driver is getting installed. Slaving that hdd from the laptop, I see that the laptop has taken the usb 3 version 4.0.2.42 which belongs to the Dell Optiplex 5040. Viewing the .inf files from the 5040's driver I do not see anything so far that I can modify so the E5530 takes it's own usb3 and not another models. I know the DA scans hardware ids and figures out from there what that imaged computer needs.

In production I did speak with a Symantec Tech and I was told to package the usb 3 drivers and do a softwre delivery with a script to install. Wait till CMS 8.0 comes out, it will fix the ubs3 issue. 7.6's DeployAnywhere has issues figuring out how to correctly choose the right USB3 driver. I could do that again, but with our Optiplex 5040 desktops and Windows 7; usb keyboard and mouse will not work until the usb 3 driver is installed.

Has anyone else come across this issue with a better alternative? Maybe someone has found a way to make DA give the right usb3 to the right computer getting imaged?

Why does the Windows @OSFlavorName not get filled in with non-Default unattend.xmls in DS 8.0?

$

I need a solution

Dear All,

I am trying to get DS 8.0 HF5 working with installing Windows 10 Professional. The Default Unattend answer file (same as the 2016 file) works, but the computer does not auto-login to complete the final (and tediously-slow) installation after the user logs in.

So as to fix this, I have copied out the Default Unattend.xml from the SOI/AnswerFiles folder and edited this to add an Auto-Login section for 1 time to get Windows to finalise the installation on its own (and probably auto-reboot?)

When I make this change to the Unattend.xml, I find that the selection for which OS to install appears and the setup.exe hangs there. When I look at the Unattend.xml, I see that the XML file has not been edited by DS to change the @OSFlavorName variable to "1", which is the correct value, but stays as "@OSFlavorName" in the XML file. When I edit the file itself in the custom folder and manually replace @OSFlavorName with 1 and re-run the installation task, the setup.exe again hangs in the same place (however, if I press "Next", it does go through to completion). When I again look at the Unattend.XML file, the @OSFlavorName value is back!

What is going on?!?!?

Kindest regards,

QuietLeni

Deploying Image without PXE

I need a solution

My training in Altiris Deployment solution was over a year ago but I thing I recall a feature where you could apply a Ghost image without PXE or bootable media. Is there a way to download and image to a remote computer, have it restart, boot to Automation and apply the image? The scenario is that I have a PC on my LAN that needs to be reimaged but that segment of the network cannot PXE boot.

Thanks for any input on this.

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

So I know the "supported" way of building images is to have the smp agent in the image then run a prepare image / disk capture. The issue I have with that is all the other subagents that get on there. Usually I script the stuff from sysprep but I have had inconsistencies with the deployment agent getting things on the domain, so I am going to use the official method.

My question is, is there a way to get just the core agents on there without having to turn down software delivery policies and such? I keep ending up with extra software in my image from managed software jobs. Can I block network activity from the agent or disallow maintenance, then the prepare image job will reset that back just before the capture?
